Digital customer services for energy suppliers and grid operators

Meter readings, invoices, tariff changes, moves: energy suppliers serve households and business customers with many recurring requests. A customer portal connected to SAP and billing takes the load off customer service and the call centre.

Starting point

Energy suppliers serve many customers with recurring requests

Many utilities introduced their customer portal years ago. Today the systems are reaching their limits: billing runs in SAP, customer data sits in the CRM, and the portal accesses them through interfaces that have grown over time.

At the same time, customers expect to manage meter readings, invoices and contracts themselves at any time, in the browser as well as in the app. Regular maintenance of SAP ERP 6.0 ends at the end of 2027 and can be extended at extra cost until the end of 2030. This also puts the interfaces to the test.

What we often encounter

  1. The call centre answers questions that a portal could answer.
  2. The existing portal is based on a legacy application with interfaces that have grown over time.
  3. Several companies or grid areas need a shared platform.
  4. The SAP migration requires new interfaces to the portal and app.

Target groups

What business and private customers expect

Most of our clients serve both groups. We map them on one platform, with their own permissions, prices and processes.

Consumers (B2C)

  • Submit meter reading
  • View invoices and payments
  • Adjust instalment payments
  • Report a move or a tariff change

Business customers (B2B)

  • Manage several supply points
  • Retrieve collective invoices and documents
  • Manage contracts and contact persons
  • Export data for your own energy management

Customer portal and cloud migration for an energy supplier

2channels on one platform: self-service portal and app, connected to SAP and Dynamics

  1. Problem

The customer portal was based on a legacy PHP application that could hardly be extended any more. Self-service for web and app was required.

  2. Solution

Java microservices on Azure with Kubernetes replace the legacy application and connect SAP and Microsoft Dynamics. Content comes from Adobe Experience Manager.

  3. Integration
    • Java microservices
    • Azure
    • Kubernetes
    • Adobe Experience Manager
    • SAP
    • Microsoft Dynamics
  4. Result

Customers handle onboarding, invoices and payment themselves, on the web and in the app.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Typical features are recording meter readings, invoices and payments, adjusting instalment payments, notifications of moving house, tariff changes and contract documents. For business customers, multiple supply points and consolidated invoices are added.

Yes. We connect portals to SAP and Microsoft Dynamics via REST APIs or middleware. In a REEA Group project for an energy utility, exactly this integration was implemented for a self-service portal and an app.

Yes. A multi-tenant platform separates data, permissions and presentation for each company, but uses the same technical foundation. The REEA Group developed such a platform for a grid operator based on .NET.

Regular maintenance of SAP ERP 6.0 ends at the end of 2027 and can be extended at extra cost until the end of 2030. When you move to a new SAP system, the interfaces change. We plan the integration of portal and app in parallel with the SAP migration.

On request in Switzerland with Infomaniak or in the EU. Development takes place in our development centre in the EU, certified to ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 45001.
